Papillon Hall in Jasan Park, which is located in Jonghwa-dong, Yeosu, draws attention from the audience by presenting Turtle Ship Bridge made with insects.
Turtle Ship Bridge now on display was made by Action Officer Jo Dal-jun with about 9,000 beetle wings that he collected.
Officer Jo created Turtle Ship Bridge, the symbol of the city, by rendering a close-knit assemblage of beetle wings on the colored plywood board for last three months.
Using a laser cutter, he got the shapes of seagull, butterfly, yacht, and fish, and made 52 cables of Turtle Ship Bridge by scissoring butterfly wings.
Papillion Hall which exhibits morphinae that became famous with the film Papillion also displays works like ‘Yeosu as Butterfly Peninsula’ and ‘Green Fish’, thus attracting a lot of tourists and city residents.
Notably, the fish made with beetle wings is named ‘green fish’ and registered with Korea Intellectual Property Office.
With about 5,000 pieces in 398 species including the 42 endangered butterfly species as designated by Ministry of Environment, Papillon Hall is now very popular as a nature study center for students.
