Since the Jeollanamdo Provincial Office entered the investment agreement for marine tourism complex in Gyeongdo Island on January 9 at the consortium between Jeollanamdo, Yeosu-si and Mirae Asset, as of June, Gyeongdo Island is waiting to be incorporated into the Gwangyang bay area Free Economic Zone,
Mirae Asset is implementing the public contest for overseas architects and planning on the development aiming to confirm the development plan in 2017.
Until now, Yeosu-si has made strenuous moves for the incorporation of Gyeongdo Island into the Free Economic Zone along with Jeollanamdo Provincial Office by discussing on the draft with the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and 20 governmental departments.
The incorporation of Gyeongdo Island into the Free Economic Zone is to be decided by the due diligence of the expert evaluation group for Free Economic Zone and the deliberation at the Free Economic Zone Committee.
The city expects to see accelerating development of Gyeongdo Island marine and tourism complex with the establishment of the grounds for governmental subsidies on building the marine bridge for accessing Gyeongdo Island once it is incorporated into the Free Economic Zone.
Gyeongdo Island development project consists of total KRW 1.1 trillion investments by 2029 by Mirae Asset to build 6-star resort hotels, healing facilities, golf villas, water park and marina apart from the existing 27-hole golf course, condominium and auto camping site.
Once the marine and tourism complex is completed, Yeosu-si will truly become an international marine tourism city.
It is expected that Gyeongdo Marine Tourism Complex will make the night sea view of Yeosu will get more beautiful from Yeosu International Expo Site to Yeosu Marine Park and Dolsan Park.
