Yeosu City has drawn positive reaction from its residents by converting its offline programs at the City Library to online operations in responding to the Covid-19 pandemic. Starting on the 28th of the last month with the aim of preventing the spread of the Covid-19 infections, Yi Sun-sin Library has implemented its popular humanities programs such as ’Journey with Humanities’ and ’Humanities Reading Academy’ through Naver Band, a non-contact platform. Registering as high levels of participation as their offline versions, the programs engaged in free questions and answers through the chat screen, and the city residents enjoyed follow-up meetings in Band after the lectures finished. The programs are now thought by the public to serve excellently to satisfy the cultural needs of the city people and support stable livelihoods of the instructors by switching online when people are not allowed to gather for such educational experiences. Yeosu City Library said, “Looking forward, we will develop various online programs and create an environment that ensures safe library use through non-contact book reading services. Meanwhile, two out of total five lectures have been completed for the ’Journey with Humanities’ program, and six out of total fifteen lectures have been delivered for ’Humanities Reading Academy’.
