Final Briefing Session on “Establishment of Project Plans for 100th Anniversary of Opening Yeosu Port”
Discovery of 11 Medium and Long-Term Projects and 8 Short Term Projects for Developing Yeosu Port

Last November 19, Yeosu City announced on holding a final briefing session on project plans for [100th Anniversary of Opening Yeosu] at meeting room of Yeosu City Hall.

The briefing session was presided by Mayor Kwon Ohbong and 50 people including Commissioner Kim Byeongho of Citizen Committee, Councilor Kang Hyeontae, Park Sungmi, Song Jaehyang, advisory panel, and task force team participated in the session.

The agency established “Complex Marine Tourism Base in Co-Existence with Human” as the future vision, gathered and reflected various opinions from Citizen Committee and advisory panel for 6 months, and came up with 11 mid and long-term projects and 8 short-term projects.

The mid and long-term projects included the policy for revitalizing the marine tourism and establishment of the yacht and boat infrastructures for fostering Gamak Bay regions into the center of ocean leports and marine transportation.

It was also pointed out that it is essential to build a national-scale exhibition convention center for revitalizing the exhibition places that are not widely used, meeting the short-distance tourism demands of cruise tourists, and providing various tourism contents. Along with the exhibition convention center, facility remodeling and large shopping center attraction measures were also suggested together.

In addition, the session also covered the need for securing the tourism infrastructures such as more access roads from new port to new north port and road connecting Gukdong Port to Former Yeosu Port along with the importance of arranging the citizen-friendly port facilities (waterfront) and organizing the waterline as the rest area for citizens.

As other short-term projects were discussed together, there will be various events including burying a time capsule with citizen’s wishes and opening them in 2123, planting trees, and drawing and writing contents for children at Yeosu Port 100th Anniversary Ceremony in April 2023.

At new port, new north port, and old port, there will be photo zones with stories about Yeosu Port. There will also be a small park and symbolic footprints to celebrate the 100th anniversary of opening the Yeosu Port. These facilities will be the loved by tourists in 20s and 30s.

Mayor Kwon said “We will spotlight on historical value of Yeosu Port that lasted for 100 years. We will also make Yeosu Port into a vital place where people gather and citizens rest together. There will be detailed plans for the projects and we will actively work on the state funded projects.
