National Press Conference about Hosting the Yeosu World Expo

- 20,000 citizens participated in the ‘BIE Due Diligence’ parade
○ The Jeonnamdo Government and Yeosu City held a national press conference about hosting the 2012 Yeosu World Expo at Jinnam Gymnasium, Yeosu on the 30th day 6:00PM.
○ The purpose of this event is to congratulate the people of Jeonnamdo and Yeosu City for achieving the dream, for which everyone stood together for five years with one mind and one will, of hosting the ‘2012 Yeosu World Expo” after they failed to be rewarded the 2010 Yeosu World Expo in December 2002.
○ There were 500 invitees including Prime Minister Han Duck-soo, Maritime Minister Kang Moo-hyun, Chairman of the 2012 Yeosu World Expo Bidding Committee Kim Jae-chul, Honorary Chairman of Bidding Committee Chung Mong-koo, Chairman of Special Bidding Committee from the National Assembly Lee In-ki, lawmaker Kim Seong-gon and Ju Seung-yong, Governor of Jeonnam Park Jun-young, Mayor of Yeosu Oh Hyun-sup and the presidents of authorities and organizations in nearby cities and provinces. The event was also attended by 5,000 citizens.
○ Principle events included a welcome event by citizens along the roadside and at the Yeosu Airport, a congratulatory fireworks show, and a national press conference event.
○ While principal figures including Prime Minister Han Duck-soo were riding to Jinnam Gymnasium from Yeosu Airport via the major roads in Yeosu City, about 20,000 citizens participated in the street Nongak performance, costume parade and welcome performances, and hanging Cheongsachorong (traditional Korean lanterns) at major points to enthusiastically welcome Expo supporters.
○ The national press conference, which was the main event, began from 6 PM. The opening ceremonies included a congratulatory performance by Jeonnamdo Provincial Institute for Traditional Korean Performing Arts, and a video of the ‘500 day Long March to Hold the World Expo’ were held, after which the opening of the event was declared, and a progress report, commemorative address, and the theme video ‘Declaration for the Future Dream of Sea’ followed. The finally included a ‘Congratulatory Concert for Success’ performed by top-class famous Korean singers.
