The organizing committee of EXPO 2012 YEOSU KOREA will have an Inaugural General Assembly of Promoters at Lotte Hotel in Seoul to officially launch the preparation phase.
The special law to support EXPO YEOSU KOREA was passed by the National Assembly last February, and was published in the official gazette on the 13th after a Cabinet meeting on the 11th.
According to Yeosu City, on the 17th, the Government prepared a proposal to elect the chairman and secretary general of the organizing committee in accordance with the special law between the 10th and 14th. Also, it finalized the organization of the office and operating budget, and articles of incorporation.
Afterwards, the establishment plan of the organizing committee will be reported to the Cabinet, and operation regulations of the organizing committee for the appointment of executives and members will be established. In this period, the office will be also moved to a new location.
The organizing committee will hold the Inaugural General Assembly of Promoters on the 26th, apply to establish a foundation, and finish registering the corporation by the 4th, and the signboard hanging ceremony will be held between the 7th and 11th of next month.
The preparation and planning team of EXPO 2012 YEOSU KOREA will have one chairman, two vice chairmen, around 10 executive members, 50-70 committee members, and one auditor for the executives of the organizing committee.
It is anticipated that someone with an international perspective, a domestic reputation, the ability to manage an organization, determination, a good personality, and various experiences will be selected as chairman, but unexpected person might be elected. Along with this, an internationally well-known person and global entrepreneur may be recommended as honorary chairman.
The organizing committee will also organize an executive committee with around 10 key officials. The office will start out with 180 employees in the first stage, and expand to 500 by the 4th stage in 2012, comparing to the 1993 DAEJEON EXPO and 2002 World Cup.
The sub-office under the chairman will consist of a project division, an external cooperation division, an exhibition and operation division, a construction division, a planning and coordination division, a public relations office, and an audit office.
The enforcement ordinance of the special law to support the YEOSU EXPO will be prepared by the end of this month and submitted to the Office of Legislation at the beginning of next month. The enforcement ordinance will be effective by the beginning of May through the Cabinet meeting.
