Yeosu was awarded the Grand prize in 2008 Jeonnam Tourism Assessment and the Excellence prize in the Tourism Accommodation Assessment conducted by Korea Tourism Organization. This result clearly proves that Yeosu is well conditioned to host 2012 International Exposition.
With the start of Spring, Yeosu is preparing to welcome tourists with a fresh mind and determination as a marine tourist, leisure and global city. Also, it is laying the foundation for revitalizing local economy and becoming a hub city for the south coast by promoting tourism industry in keeping with the thorough preparation for the EXPO.
To this end, Yeosu is creating attractive tourist destinations by developing various themed tourist products. It is already embarking on the development of a tourism discount coupon system, products based on folk tales, interactive festivals including Yeosu Great Turtle Ship Festival, a package tour of the south coast, and island tours. Such efforts will contribute to promoting Yeosu's image as a tourist city and activating the local economy.
On top of this, Yeosu is poised to accelerate the development of city tour products including the creation of 160㎞ long travel route, Admiral Lee Soon-shin pilgrimage tour and south coast tour. Moreover, it is planning to introduce green tour products by nurturing Sa-do and Nang-do as eco islands, Geomun-do and Baek-do as cultural islands, Baekya-do as a family and resort island and Sang/Ha hwa-do as islands of flowers.
Besides, it will designate a scenic point of Yeosu National Industrial Complex and operate a night cruise to allow visitors to enjoy the night views of the complex and sea.
To promote such attractive tourist sites and the charm of Yeosu, it will focus on tourism marketing by additionally recruiting 53 culture and tourism commentators including those with foreign language proficiency.
This is expected to offer systematic tourism information and service for the Expo as well as being able to better meet the growing demand of foreign tourists.
