The Organizing Committee for Expo 2012 Yeosu Korea has recently unveiled to the public "Yeony and Suny", the new mascots of 2012 International Exposition.
Yeony and Suny, whose names derive from Yeosu, mean "An open mind to the world" and "A broad ocean embracing the earth". The new mascots are modeled after the ocean plankton which form the foundation of ocean life to perfectly demonstrate the theme of the
Expo “The Living Ocean and Coast.” To be specific, the deep blue and red represent the beautiful color of the ocean and unlimited resources in the sea. The feelers on their heads symbolize an active communication with all visitors to the 2012 Exposition.
The Organizing Committee commissioned Korea Institute of Design Promotion to design the new mascots. Also, it launched a nationwide survey to select the most preferred name for the expo mascots. In addition, a wide range of opinions were collected from professional designers, local people and experts who develop and sell products.
In the meantime, Expo 2012 Yeosu Korea celebrated its three-year countdown day on May 12th. Marking this special day, the fourth Meeting of the Government Support Committee for Expo 2012 Yeosu Korea convened at Yeosu City Hall to review the progress of the Expo preparations.
The committee meeting was attended by Prime Minister Han Seung-Soo and several relevant ministers and deputy ministers. The day of celebrations included the launch of the official Expo Supporters' Group organized by the Council for the One Million Supporters for the Expo 2012 of Hope and Korea Multi Culture and Art Promotion Agency.
