"Let's make Admiral Yi Soon-shin Plaza a new landmark for Yeosu, the city of loyalty." This is the main idea of the Admiral Yi Soon-shin Plaza Construction Project which Yeosu has embarked on as a pet project. The project is now gaining momentum as a compensation issue has solved in the area where the plaza will be built.
This is a project that will build a 13, 989㎡-long plaza stretching from the rotary to the logistics center in Jungang-dong. The construction is expected to be completed by the end of March, 2010 with expenses totaling 46 billion won to include 22 billion won in compensation and 24 billion won in facilities.
The plaza is projected to have symbolic sculptures, which will show Yeosu's unique features, a parking lot, facilities for night lighting, and landscape architecture.
"You can see in every country that well-established parks or plazas serve as a magnet to attract people" said a city official. He also added that "If successfully built, the plaza will contribute to boosting the tourist income of our city, which in turn will increase the income of the local people and revitalize the old downtown."
The Admiral Yi Soon-shin Plaza will be designed to connect Jinnamkwan (National Treasure No. 304) with waterfront facilities and promote the image of Yeosu as the city of history, culture and arts.
