Yeosu has become an attractive tourist haven for a growing number of those who are in charge of developing tourist products.
According to Yeosu, officials from four international cruise lines such as Royal Caribbean Cruise Shanghai Office and Seabourn Cruise Line, the USA visited the city from September to October, 2009.
Also, 25 members from a Chinese travel agency based in Shandong province and local journalists are scheduled to visit Yeosu on October 28 to get some ideas on how to develop tourist packages for Chinese tourists coming to Korea.
Further, 43 principals from Korea Public Middle School Principals’ Association are expected to tour Yeosu from October 29 to see if the city is a suitable place for next year’s Middle School outings.
These recent visits are the result of the strategy made by the city to attract tourists in an effort to promote Expo 2012, and the hard work has come to fruition. Seabourn Pride, a luxurious cruise ship of the Seabourn Cruise Line is scheduled to dock in Yeosu harbor next year. Additionally, Chinese and Japanese cruise lines are currently developing tourist packages to dock at Port of Yeosu.
Yeosu has provided a guided tour package, which allows tourist and visitors to learn about Yeosu’s history and visit historical sites. In particular, Yeosu is focusing some tourist attractions on sites related to Admiral Lee Soon-shin who defended Korea against Japanese invasion in 1592. Also, during the tour, visitors will have a great time enjoying popular local dishes as well as beautiful islands and the Rias coast of the south coast.
With this attractive tour package, the city offers comfortable accommodations and transportation.
“We will continue to provide this tour package to upgrade the image of Yeosu as an international marine tourist city. Also, by developing unique tourist products, we will work hard to meet the growing tourism demand and create an income opportunity, thereby contributing to revitalizing the local economy,” said a city official.
Meantime, on October 23, 2009 Yeosu was visited by three delegates from the Most Beautiful Bays in the World Club, an international association founded in Berlin on 10 March 1997, consisting of regions each representing a community with a frontage marine bay.
Yeosu submitted an application for the club membership to the 5th World Congress of the club held in Portugal, May, 2009.
The purpose of the club’s visit was to decide whether to accept Yeosu’s membership application to the club by seeing and observing the beautiful bays of Yeosu in person before the final decision is made in its general assembly in November, 2009.
Joining the club is expected to help Yeosu extend its’ promotion of Expo 2012 to the European members of the club and international marine environmental organizations.
Besides, the membership will be a great opportunity for Yeosu to enhance its value as a global marine tourist city by engaging in exchange and cooperation with other club members.
