Harmonious Firework at Yeosu to Express Citizens'

The Yeosu International Fireworks Festival was held elegantly on the 5thof May in Lee Sun-sin Plaza with the theme "Yeosu and the Sea" gathering over 145,000 tourists.
The festival's curtains went up at 7:30 p.m. with fireworks display and popera performance before its official start at 8 P.M..
This is the second fireworks festival since its launching last 2008 where Italy bagged the first price while Japan and Germany got the 2nd and 3rd prize respectively. On the other hand,Koreadidnotjoininthesaidcontestbutinsteadorganizedthewholeeventupuntilitsfinale.
Five judges were invited to choose the winner according to the different criteria such as: harmony between the music and fireworks, their distinctive characteristics, originality, and artistry교. The final decision was based on the scores gathered from ARS (1577-1114) phone responses.
Each country did its fireworks simultaneously with grand music for 15 minutes with various themes: Italy had "Harmony", while Japan and Germany had "Sky Concert" and "Ocean," themes respectively. Korea opened splendidly its fireworks expressing the dreams and hopes of the people with the theme of "Beautiful Colorful Fireworks of Hope."
In between each country's fireworks and performances, cutting-edge multimedia creates fantasy with music and lighting and laser shows decorated beautifully the sky of Yeosu during the night.
During the morning, the Lee Sun-sin Plaza where the event was held was already filled with a big crowd wishing to participate in the Turtle Ship Festival and watch the fireworks thereafter. The Marine Park and Dolsan Park were also packed with locals and tourists.
Moved by the fireworks decorating the night sky with all kinds of colors over Jangun Island and Dolsan Park, visiting tourists acclaimed in unison. It did not disappoint to fill the tourists with unforgettable memories on an early summer night of the Children's Day.
Further, Yeosu City installed an oil fence to prevent firework remnants from polluting the sea and held a clean campaign to prevent environmental damage.

An official at Yeosu City said, “The large crowd of visitors gathered to watch the event realized once again the popularity of fireworks.” He continued, "We expressed our citizens' wishes to successfully hold the 2012 Yeosu World Expo with the fireworks."
