The Organizing Committee for Expo 2012 Yeosu Korea said it will start building exhibits in three major pavilions–the Theme Pavilion, Korea Pavilion, and the Marine Industry & Technology Pavilion– on September 30. This follows exhibits in two other pavilions–the Climate & Environment Pavilion and Marine Civilization & City Pavilion– whose construction began on Sept. 22, and the construction of the Hanwha Aquarium exhibits started much earlier from July 22.
The Organizing Committee selected companies to set up those exhibits through public bidding in the second half of last year. The interior designs of the buildings were finalized in late April, and then models and films of the exhibits were carefully made based on the designs. All the exhibition contents are set to be put into the pavilions by the end of February next year, with trial operation and rehearsals scheduled for March.
The Hanwha Aquarium will have a 20-meter exhibition facility that shows life in mudflats and a submarine-shaped exhibit that allows visitors to explore the deep sea in 4-D.
The frame for what is going to be the world’s largest dome screen has been built inside the Korea Pavilion, which boasts traditional Korean windows on its exterior. The dome screen measuring 30 meters in diameter and 15 meters in height will allow visitors to experience Korea’s maritime power through high-quality visual and audio effects.
The Climate & Environment Pavilion will feature a 40-meter-long pathway that will simulate glaciers and blizzards in the Arctic. This will likely be a popular spot for visitors since the Expo will be held during the sizzling summer season next year.
“As the construction of pavilions is nearing its completion, the production of films, lighting, sound, models and others is also picking up the speed,” said Lee Sang-kil for General Exhibition & Operation of the Organizing Committee. “We are accelerating the preparation process not just in the aspect of hardware but also in software.” As of September 23, the construction process stood at over 71 percent.
