The Organizing Committee for Expo 2012 Yeosu Korea recently launched its “Reading at Work” campaign, adopting the latest trend in entrepreneurial circles to inspire innovation through reading.
The campaign began with encouraging employees to donate books. The Committee said that it transformed a staff lounge into a “Reading Room” after gathering about 500 books during the month of August. All staff members are free to borrow the books.
“Since Yeosu Expo is a global event featuring a combination of exhibitions and cultural performances, our staff needs to cultivate a creative spirit and broad knowledge in the humanities,” said Kang Dong-suk, chairman of the Organizing Committee. “I will keep encouraging staff members to read in a hope that reading will foster their emotional development and knowledge they gain from reading will contribute to preparation of the Expo.”
The Organizing Committee said it plans to offer incentives to high-performing employees and reinforce the “Reading at Work” campaign by launching book clubs and inviting best-selling authors for discussions. The Committee added that it will continue to gather books to improve the quality of its book collection. As the Committee disbands next year after the end of Yeosu Expo, all the books will be donated to youth centers and school libraries.
