The Yeosu Expo mascots – Yeony and Suny – recently enjoyed popularity at a famous UK street festival.
The Organizing Committee for Expo 2012 Yeosu Korea set up a promotion booth at the Mayor’s Thames Festival held from September 10 to 11 along the Thames River in London. Visitors had a chance to leave well-wishing notes for Yeosu Expo on a large balloon, and they also took photos with Yeony and Suny masks on them. The two mascots, which symbolize a water droplet and plankton, particularly drew children’s interest.
The Mayor’s Thames Festival is Europe’s largest street festival, held in late summer every year, drawing as many as a million people. Since Korea began participating in the Thames Festival in 2007, it has attracted faithful fans each year thanks to its various programs including a tae-kwon-do demonstration and a B-boy performance. But this year, the Yeosu Expo promotion booth offered a new highlight at the festival.
“We prepared lively events such as a photo time with Yeony and Suny to help people abroad feel that Yeosu Expo is an approachable and exciting event,” said Kang Jeong-goo, deputy director general for Overseas Marketing of the Organizing Committee. “We will continue proactive overseas promotion as we participate in travel fairs and invite travel agencies in Europe and Americas.”
