The Organizing Committee for EXPO 2012 Yeosu Korea announced on December 12 that it signed a participation contract with the United States of America at the American Embassy in Seoul. The contract signing ceremony was held in the presence of Kang Dong-suk, Chairmain of the Organizing Committee, Ambassador Lee Joon-hee, Commissioner of EXPO 2012 Yeosu Korea, Ambassador Sung Kim of the U.S., along with members of the American delegation to Yeosu Expo.
Chairman Kang expressed gratitude toward the American government for the participation in the Expo and pledged full support for the success of the U.S. Pavilion. Chairman Kang said, “Millions visitors are expected to visit the U.S. Pavilion.” “We expect the U.S. Pavilion to be an enormous success,” he added.
Ambassador Sung Kim said that the U.S. participation to the Expo would be a good opportunity to show the advanced marine technologies of the United States. He said the American delegation would spare no effort to prepare for a successful exposition, now only 5 months away.
After the contract signing ceremony, Spokesperson of the U.S. Pavilion Philippe Cousteau, gave a walk-through of what the U.S. Pavilion would look like. Cousteau is a renowned environment activist who founded EarthEcho International, a non-profit organization, and is the grandson of the legendary maritime explorer, Jacques-Yves Cousteau.
The U.S. Pavilion will present the advanced marine technologies of America with the theme of ‘Diversity, Wonder, and Solution,’ using various multi-media for delivery of its contents. The America Pavilion aims to show the world the diversity, innovation, entrepreneurship, and the commitment to the sustainable development of the United States. The U.S. Pavilion will be located at the Pacific Ocean Zone on the 3rd floor of the International Pavilion, with the widest exhibit area of 4 modules. (1 module is equal to 256m2.)
Last October, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton had announced America’s participation in Yeosu Expo during President Lee Myoung-bak’s state visit to America.
