Expo commemorative coins to be sold
Commemorative coins for Expo 2012 Yeosu Korea will be sold on reservation on a first-come, first-served basis, said the Expo Organizing Committee.
The set of six coins was issued to mark the upcoming international fair at a currency museum of the Bank of Korea in Seoul on March 8, 2012.
The coins consist of two types of gold coins, 1/2 and 1/4 ounce, three types of silver coins, 1 and two 1/2 ounce, and one tri-metal coin, on which the designs of the exhibition hall with the mascots "Yeony" and "Suny" engraved on them, according to the organizing committee.
The committee says the commemorative coins were made to increase the possession value by adding design and creativity to the latest technology applied for the first time in Korea. In particular, it seems as though the gold coins and 1 ounce silver coins will attract more attention since they are issued in small quantities only for large-scale international events.
"As the possession value is expected to be high due to the small amount of issuance, those wishing to purchase a commemorative coin should act fast," said a committee official.
