On April 25, a ceremony was held in commemoration of the completion of work for the Energy Park, with 100-plus people attending, including Chairman Kang Dong-suk of the Organizing Committee for Expo 2012 Yeosu Korea.
The park displays virtually everything related to eco-friendly energy as befits Expo 2012 Yeosu Korea, which aims to be an environment-friendly event, including power generation facilities, new and renewable energy sources like photovoltaic and wind power, hydrogen fuel-cell cars, electric cars, online electric buses, and facilities where visitors can have hands-on experience in energy production.
The 2.2 MW photovoltaic power plant, which was constructed with private capital, supplies power to the Expo site and nearby areas. With the capacity to generate 2.57 million kWh of power a year, it supplies power to about 700 households and boasts the effect of reducing 1,600 tons of greenhouse gas emissions a year.
The photovoltaic power is clean energy that does not cause pollution or resource depletion and thus fits in well with the theme of Expo 2012 Yeosu Korea.
In the facility for hands-on energy experience, visitors can learn the principle of wave power by hitting against the cushioned wall or produce energy by turning water wheels. The facility is designed to help people recognize the value of energy.
If you feel like avoiding crowds, you can get on an online electric bus, which runs along a path that commands a nice view of the sea. The bus ride is free of charge. As one of Time’s 50 Best Inventions of 2010, the road-embedded rechargers of the online electric bus make it possible to recharge the vehicle wirelessly while the bus runs on the road.
