Expo 2012 Yeosu Korea welcomes
its first international cruise ship
Pacific Venus came into port…
500 Japanese tourists fascinated by South Korea’s southern coast
The first international cruise ship since the opening of Expo 2012 Yeosu Korea put into the international cruise terminal on Monday.
The Pacific Venus with around 400 Japanese tourists on board reached a cruise port inside the Expo site at 6 p.m. on May 12. The 26,000-ton luxury cruise ship departed from Kobe, Japan on 13th. The cruise will anchor at Yeosu Expo port on 14th and set sail at 11 p.m. on 15th.
Japanese tourists, after getting off the cruise ship, watched diverse performances such as the Big-O show and Big Ocean Show and toured pavilions including the Japan Pavilion and the Korea Pavilion. Some of them visited nearby tourist attractions such as Suncheon Bay and Naganeupseong Folk Village. The vessel will go through major tourist cities in the southern coast, such as Jeju Island and Pusan, to get to its final destination Kobe. The Pacific Venus is scheduled to come into the Expo port on July 21.
International cruise ships including the Legend of the seas, which was constructed by the world’s largest cruise ship builder Royal Caribbean Cruise, are expected to enter into the Expo cruise port for more than ten times.
Cho Dong-uk, the director of international marketing teamⅠ at the organizing committee for EXPO 2012 Yeosu Korea, said “vessels are the fastest transport for visitors, as they can get off right at the Expo site.” He added that “many Japanese and Chinese visitors are expected to take a cruise ship to enjoy the Expo.”
