R&B Star John Legend Performs In Korea
John Legend, a world-renowned R&B singer and nine-time Grammy winning artist, is set to perform a special stage at Expo 2012 Yeosu Korea at 7:30pm on May 26th. His two previous concerts of 2009 and 2011 in Korea were completely sold out, picking up a strong fan-base in the region, while his records sold 8 million copies around the world, mesmerizing his audience with his soulful voice and beautiful lyrics.
The singer, pianist and songwriter released his first album "Get Lifted" in 2004. It made a successful debut at number four on the Pop album chart, number one on the Black Album chart. He performed one of his most successful numbers, "Ordinary People", with Stevie Wonder at 2005 BET Awards, showcasing his talents that are on par with his co-performer.
His second album, "Once Again", was nominated in most number of categories (eight) and won "Best New Artist", "Best R&B Album" and "Best Male R&B Vocal" at the 2006 Grammy Awards.
His third album, "Evolver", which boasted production from well-known artists such as Kanye West and Brandy, went on to attract even more fans around the world, while his 2010 album "Wake Up", in which he collaborated with a legendary hip-hop group "Roots", introduced a new style where he incorporated various genres of gospel, rock, reggae, hip-hop and soul into his music.
Legend also makes frequent appearance at various social events. With his deep interest in environmental issues, he has performed at "Live Earth Concert", and launched "The Show Me Campaign" to draw public attention to refugees and starving children in African nations such as Tanzania. Recognizing his efforts in social movement, the Time magazine listed him as "one of the 100 most influential people in the world".
The Big-O stage, where the singer is set to perform, is a representative figure of the Expo 2012 Yeosu Korea. It mainly hosts large-scale events, cultural performances and various shows on its floating structure which links the sea by the new port, breakwater and the land.
Legend is expected to touch the audience with his soft R&B music with dreamy piano composition against a beautiful backdrop of the sea stage.
Ticket price of the show is included in the admission to the Expo, which can be bought at the official Expo (www.expo2012.kr) or Interpark website (www.interpark.com). More information can be found in the cultural & academic event section of the Expo website.
