Great Start to Expo Pop Festival
More to enjoy with Big-O show twice a day…
Operation went smoothly with 90,000 visitors
A star-studded nighttime music event “Expo Pop Festival” started off in the Southern Coastal city of Yeosu.
According to the Organizing Committee of Yeosu Expo, around 20,000 visitors from home and abroad gathered up for the opening show on the 17th, marking a successful first day of the festival.
A special stage set for the opening event was swarmed up with 20,000 music fans of singers including Rain, Park Hyo-Shin, KCM and Nine Muses. Rain, notably, was greeted by around 2,000 dedicated fans from Korea and Japan, who formed an instant cue in front of the stage upon entering the Expo to welcome the long-awaited global star.
Rain, who is currently serving in military as Private First Class Jung Ji-Hoon, suggested more people would visit the Expo, saying that “the coastal view of Yeosu is very romantic” and that “the Expo is a great chance to enjoy a variety of exhibitions and charmed by the beauty of Yeosu.”
On Sunday, 90,623 visitors came to the Expo site, posting a record high turnout except for the number recorded on May 28, the Budda’s birthday. Still, there was no significant congestion in the Expo site, with visitors widely dispersed across the site visiting various places such as pop festival special stage, the Big-O stage and the International Pavilion. The Big-O multimedia show, one of the most popular shows with visitors, was held twice on the day.
Kim Kwang-young, manager of the cultural programs planning department, said “now, visitors have much more to enjoy, watching the Expo pop festival and then the Big-O show.”
Participating nations’ exhibitions also drew endless flow of visitors on the 15th and 16th. Aquarium and DSME Marine Robot Pavilion, one of the most-visited pavilions at the Yesou Expo, had a long line and visitors had to wait for up to two hours.
The Expo Pop Festival stages a series of mega concerts every night at 8 pm, featuring famous K-pop stars at the special stage that can seat around 20,000 audiences inside Cruise Park.
