Yeosu Expo Delivers Perfect Combination of Eastern and Western Music
Sky Tower Pipe Organ and Palsandae Come Together
for Joint Performance Every Wednesday and Thursday
Vox Maris, an official name for the Sky Tower pipe organ, which produces the loudest sound in the world, collaborates with Korean traditional performing arts group “Palsandae.”
The Organizing Committee for Expo 2012 Yeosu Korea announced that the joint performance of the Sky Tower pipe organ and Palsandae would take place every Wednesday and Thursday at 2 pm at Music Plaza in front of the Sky Tower, until the Yeosu Expo comes to an end on August 12.
With the joint performance, Vox Maris takes on a new challenge of incorporating the eastern and western music, following up on its diverse cross-over performances including those with musical singers and classical music artists as well as a number of musical instruments such as violas, cellos, trumpets and Korean seven-stringed instruments.
The Palsandae is Korean traditional performing arts group, founded by Korea Cultural Heritage Foundation, and consists of all-around artists who perform Korean traditional songs, dances, and music. It presents Expo visitors with beautiful Korean traditional music at Traditional Stage inside the Expo site for 93-day Expo period.
Yang Hong-ju, head of Sky Tower Project Team, said that “the pipe organ and Palsandae performing together is a very meaningful encounter which blends Korean traditional music with the western musical instrument, while creating a new form of musical expression.” “I hope that it will provide an eye-catching attractions to visitors who come to enjoy the Yeosu Expo”, he added.
Once abandoned cement silos were transformed into the Sky Tower to become a cultural space with beautiful music and a centerpiece building of the Yeosu Expo. The Sky Tower is the tallest vertical structure inside the Expo site, and was listed on the Guinness Book of World Records in October 21, 2011, as a pipe organ that produces the loudest sound in the world.
