Support for “Yeosu Declaration” mark with 20,000th autograph
Participation from around the world… final version to be adopted on August 12th
The Organizing Committee of Yeosu Expo, in its announcement of July 3rd, said that the number of autographs submitted in support of “Yeosu Declaration”, a promise on part of Yeosu to the world, hit the number of 20,000 on July 2nd. The Declaration is an international document that aims to promote the importance of the ocean and call for cooperation from around the world.
The autograph campaign continues until the closing date of the Expo of August 12th, and is being conducted both online and offline at the Expo. Visitors who wish to take part in the campaign can head to the campaign desk at the entrance of Expo Hall, or can make use of their smart phone with QR code. Various events will be held three times on June 15th, July 15th and August 15th on the theme of the Yeosu Declaration, and winners of gift drawing events will be awarded with prizes including an invitation to the Yeosu Declaration Forum, souvenirs, and literature about the ocean.
Hwang Ui-sun, director of General Foreign Affairs Department of the Organizing Committee, added, “People of all walks of life from a five-year old child to 80-year old man, and even a girl all the way from the Southern Pacific island nation of Palau came forward to take part in the campaign with a genuine passion for the ocean”, and that “This enabled me to have high hopes for the future that we would realize green growth through our work on the ocean”.
The final version of Yeosu Declaration will be adopted in “Yeosu Declaration Forum” upon closing of the Expo on August 12th. Around 700 dignitaries including the nation’s Prime Minister, UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, Prime Minister of Tuvalu, secretary generals of UN international maritime and environmental organizations and oceanographers, experts, youth organizations and the general public are expected to make appearances at the Forum.
