Expo Pop Festival, the First and the Best … Fans Continue to Cry “Encore!”
Korea’s first-ever K-pop festival of mega size that features more than 70 Korean top singers is becoming a huge success, receiving enthusiastic responses from the audience.
Expo Pop Festival kicked off on June 16th with a fantastic performance by Korean singer “Rain”, and has been staged for the past 20 days or so. The Festival features diverse line-up of singers, from boy bands and girl groups, such as SHINee, A-pink, U-KISS, Secret and INFINITE, and to singers who are especially popular with those in their 20s and 30s, such as Lee Seung-gi, Park Wan-kyu, Jaurim, Seven, Davichi and Vibe, and to Korean top singers who are loved by fans of all ages such as Lee sun-hee, Kim Gun-mo and Cho Kwan-woo. The festival is becoming one of the most popular programs with visitors at Yesou Expo.
“We won’t give spotlight only to boy bands, girl groups and few specific music genres but to a variety of singers and music genres that visitors of all ages can enjoy”, said Choi Gwang-il, director of Expo Pop Festival.
Expo Pop Festival is adding festivity for the Yeosu Expo with appearances of K-Pop stars who are transcending barriers to go beyond Korea and the Asian region to reach out to Europe, South America and the rest of the world.
K-Pop stars set to perform for the festival in July include “Girls Generation”, who performed on famous American talk shows ‘David Letterman Show’ and “Live! With Kelly”, which received enthusiastic responses from American fans, and “2PM” who was listed as one of top 5 must-hear K-pop groups by New York Daily. “Rain” and “SHINee” are also expected to deliver encore performances at the end of the month.
A 40-meter long K-pop sliding stage is another element that makes Expo Pop Festival unique and special. The stage, which stretches out into the audience, was designed to minimize space between singers and audiences, to allow performers to get closer to the audience to create distinct festive mood of Expo Pop Festival.
K-pop stars who performed on the stage all say that they were so impressed by enthusiastic fans and a fabulous stage, surrounded by the sea and an enormous cruise ship, that they sang more songs than planned.
Expo Pop Festival can be enjoyed by anyone with an admission to the Expo on a first-come-first-served basis. Admission passes are available on the Yesou Expo official website (www.expo2012.kr) or Interpark (www.interpark.com).
