At the end of each Expo, the BIE awards Medals to organizations and people as a token of gratitude and recognition for the extraordinary efforts that have been made by in the realisation of such a tremendous and unique event.
The first gold medal has been awarded to the Government of the Republic of Korea in recognition of their engagement to making Expo 2012 the success we see today. With this medal, the BIE wishes to express its gratitude for the ability to fully interpret and to translate into practice the core values of education, innovation and cooperation which have been the foundation of Expo 2012 Yeosu Korea. This medal is also a token to congratulate the Government of Korea for the outstanding capability and commitment demonstrated in leading Expo 2012 as an unprecedented effort in global cooperation on the protection of our oceans and coasts.
The second gold medal is awarded to the Organizing Committee for Expo 2012 Yeosu Korea for the tireless dedication of all the staff. With this medal, the BIE wishes to express its gratitude to every member of the Organizing Committee for demonstrating an extremely high level of professionalism at all times during the preparation of the Expo and foe their permanent help and support to all the participants and to the BIE.
The third gold medal is awarded to the city of Yeosu for the outstanding ability to integrate Expo 2012 into both the strategic vision and day-to-day life of the city. With this medal, the BIE wishes to express its gratitude to the leaders and to the people of Yeosu for being gracious hosts and inspiring the citizens of the world. On behalf of the city of Yeosu, we would kindly invite Mr. Kim Chung-suk, Mayor of Yeosu to come onto the stage and receive the gold medal.
The fourth and final gold medal is awarded to the Steering Committee of the College of Commissioners on behalf of all official participants at Expo 2012 whose role is essential in ensuring smooth operations of the Expo. With this medal, the BIE wishes to express its gratitude for carrying out their task with a constructive mindset, a spirit of cooperation and a relentless support to the success of Expo 2012 Yeosu Korea. On behalf of the Steering Committee of the College of Commissioners, we kindly invite Mr. Steen Christensen, Chairman of the Steering Committee and Commissioner of Denmark, to come onto the stage and receive the gold medal.
Now we will move on to the Silver BIE Medals.
The first silver medal is awarded to the Volunteers of Expo 2012 who have occupied a very special place in the Expo. They have been a major pillar supporting many activities and they have helped participants and visitors with passion and dedication. With this medal, the BIE wishes to express its recognition that volunteers embody the spirit of solidarity and cooperation that are essential values of any Expo.
The second silver medal is awarded to the Press and Media of Expo 2012 who have continuously promoted and communicated the messages and values of Expo 2012 to the world.
Finally, the BIE would like to award a silver medal to one of the true innovations of Expo 2012. The Ocean and Coast Best Practice Area has showcased the world's best examples policies, technologies, methodologies and know-how, implemented in diverse areas related to the ocean and coast. It has been a unique space that has brought the Expo theme to life in an exemplary way and has hosted academic conferences, and art and cultural performances inspired by the oceans and coasts.
