Yeosu Rising as an Emerging Cruise Tourism City
Costa Croisiere and other cruises are to enter the port 12 times until the end of September.
Yeosu, considered one of the top four most beautiful ports of the world, is rising as a must-see tourist site for international cruise travelers.
According to the Yeosu Municipal Government, cruises of three companies entered the international passenger ship terminal of the EXPO already this year and cruises are expected to enter the port a total of 12 times until the end of September, including Italy's Costa Croisiere, which entered the port on September 11.
Eight cruises have already entered the Yeosu Port until August and another three are expected to enter the port in September alone.
Most of the cruises landing on Yeosu are of Japanese and Bahamas nationalities where the cruise industry is well developed. About 23,000 tourists are expected to visit Yeosu this year.
In particular, 20,500 tourists on board Amway incentive cruise of China are expected to visit Yeosu next year that the city is expected to enjoy a flow of tourists.
In fact, six passenger ships, including the Royal Caribbean Cruise, entered the port 12 times during the EXPO 2012 Yeosu last year. Compared to records then, such records this year without the special EXPO event is a sign of the growth of Yeosu’s cruise industry among port cities of Korea, according to an analysis.
“Yeosu has a beautiful scenery that does not fall behind at all that of other beautiful ports of the world but it was not known much in the past that its marine tourism industry did not develop much. However, starting with EXPO 2012 Yeosu, global awareness on the port rose that it is now considered as a port stop of priority by cruises” said Director Gyeong-su Kim of Dongbang Vessels, the Korean agency of Costa Croisiere.
“Once we will have completed constructing a 15-ton grade cruise wharf on the Yeosu Newport, Yeosu’s cruise industry is expected to develop further,” Kim continued.
“We will prepare special measures to provide diverse convenience services and actively administratively support all kinds of publicity materials and multilingual tourist guides so that global tourists visiting Yeosu may enjoy tourism here,” said Team Leader Gi-suk Lee of the Tourism Division of the Yeosu Municipal Government.
