The Yeosu Municipal Government is working to largely reorganize the Manheung-dong area. According to the government, the black sand seashore in Manseongni, designated as a marine national park, is being swept away and houses near the seashore are being flooded and damaged from abnormal climate such as typhoons and tsunami since a few years ago.
Accordingly, the project to reorganize the Manheung seashore as a national plan will entail investing KRW 24.3 billion in the next 3 years to prevent the erosion of black sand and install an underwater structure for the creation of a space for hydrophilic works and sand recovery.
Connected to this project, the Yeosu government will invest KRW 64.7 billion to develop the land behind Manheung, including the creation of a shopping mall, housing site, and parking lot, among others, on the 205,000㎡ large land in Pyeongchon Village which is close to the beach, until December 2018.
Before starting the project, the Yeosu government completed an investigation to judge the viability and justifiability of the project and drew up a basic plan and a working design last April and May. It thus plans to start the construction and compensation for the acquired land from July next year.
"We will closely observe the changes to the seashore brought about by climate change and invest more into this project of reorganizing and fully recovering the coastline," said an officer of the Yeosu Municipal Government.
