Let's meet the New year 2015 at Yeosu Hyangiram, one of the 4 major famous Avalokitesvara praying places in Korea.
According to Yeosu city, the 19th Hyangiram Hermitage Sunrise Festival, wishing new year's wishes, is to be held from this coming Dec 31st to Jan 1st, considered as the best tourist attraction for seeing sunrise in Korea.
In the festival, 4 events (Sunset, opening ceremony, the ringing ceremony of the Watch-Night bell, sunrise event) will be held and following events will be the various participation programs.
The Sunset event, supposed to begin from 5:00 pm on Dec 31st consists of the program to experience the beautiful sunset of Mt. Geumosan and song festivals for local people.
The opening ceremony consists of flying contest of wish wind lamp, opening celebrating event and tourists' talent show. This ceremony starts at 8:30 PM
The main highlight of Sunrise Festival, "Ringing Watch-Night Bell" will be rung 33 times, wishing good health and long life, from midnight on Dec 31 at Jonggak of Hyangiram Hermitage.
In the ringing ceremony, Ju Cheolhyeon, the mayor of Yeosu city and Park Jungchae, the president of a Yeosu city assembly, member s of a provincial assembly and city assembly, chief priest of Hyangiram Hermitage and presidents of other relevant organizations will patriciate.
The following stage will consist of events lighting candles by tourists, fireworks for greeting new year, tourists' talent show and Ganggang Suwollae Korea Hanmadang festival (a Korean circle dance)
The sunrise event, starting at 6:00AM on Jan 1st, 2015 will start with 'Binari Wishing Gut’ of flattering and ritual ceremony for wishing sunset.
The new sunset time in New year is estimated at 7:36 AM.
Flying ballon event, containing new wishes, will be held as the sunset begins in order to wish good health and happiness.
During the festival, Hyangiram Hermitage will be open free of charge and vehicle entrance will be prohibited.
For the tourists' convenience, city government will prepare temporary parking lot and operate shuttle bus from Jukpo Samgeori (three-way) intersection and Seongdu parking lot to National Park parking lot.
Also, irregular liner for watching sunset on the ship and cruise ship will be operated from Dolsandaegyo Bridge and Odong-do dock. Person who wants to board should make a reservation before boarding.
In Yeosu peninsula, surrounded by the sea including Hyangiram Hermitage, Mansungri Beach, Odongdo, Jasan Park, Mt. Gubongsan, Mt. Goraksan, Mt. Hoamsan, Mt. Museonsan, Mt. Ansimsan, Yongwolsa Temple, Gyedong and Musulmok etc. are famous for the watching sunset.
