Three Major Azalea HABITAT... Very unique in eco-tourism including hiking.
‘Enjoy the perfume of Azalea, with beautiful pink colors’.
The Yeongchwisan Mountain Jindallae(Azalea) Festival is to be held on 3th of May in the region of Yeongchwisan Mountain, Yeosu, the largest habitat of Azalea.
This is the 23th festival and starts with the religious ritual for the mountain spirit to pray for the well being of tourists and citizens and various events such as music festival in the mountain are going to be held.
Especially, tourists can enjoy slash and burn field play, pressing azaleas, exhibition of poetries of azalea, beverage tasting event of doogyeon alcohol and music concert in the mountain etc.
Azaleas of Yeongchwisan Mountain blossoms in the beginning of April. The hillside and the other areas are covered with azaleas.
Yeongchwisan Mountain is known as the largest habitat of azalea, its area is almost as the whole area of the 140 football stadiums.
In the hill side, there is a Dosolam rock from 20 minutes away from Bongwoojae with Heunguksa patriotic temple, adding quaint beauty.
There are three courses to reach at the azalea HABITAT. First course starts from the backgate GS Caltex and its length is 2.2km. The second course starts from Sangam Elementary School and its length is 1.8km and the third course starts from Heunguk Temple and its length is 1.4km.
Old people or tourists with family members can use the comfortable course, which starts from Sangam Elementary School and goes through Bongwoojae and come back to Heunguksa Temple after reaching the top of the mountain Yeongchwisan Mountain.
There are also affiliated courses for tourists. One route for tourists is “Leesunsin Bridge→Yeongchwisan Mountain (Azalea) → Odongdo-Island (Camellia) → Birung-gil of Geumodo-Island (Mountain Cherry Blossoms)→Hardwood-Island (Wild Flowers). This course is for tourists who want to enjoy spring. The other route for enjoying night view of Yeosu National Industrial course is the night city tour, Night view of Yeosu sea, and Yeosu World Expo etc.
City government and festival promotion committee have prepared temporary parking lots where 550 buses and 2450 cars can park at the Dolgogae Festival and Heunguk Temple, with the azalea HABITAT and azalea festival.
With this, bus routes heading for Heuguksa Temple and Sangam area will be expanded and officers in charge will be placed to instruct drivers.
