The Traditional Festival of Jeonnam Yeosu 'Yeosu Jinnam Turtle Ship Festival' is to be held.
From May 3 to May 5, 2015, the 'Yeosu Jinnam Turtle Ship Festival' will be held. It is a traditional festival of Jeonnam Yeosu which is formerly the home base of Jeolla Jasuyeong (the main camp of the naval forces) and also Chungmu Gong. Admiral Yi Sun-shin's spirit lives on at Yi Sun-shin Square, Jungang-dong, as well the whole area of Yeosu.
With the upcoming 49th anniversary of the Festival Opening this year, Yeo-su city and the Yeosu Jinam Turtle Ship Festival Committee are designed to set this festival as a 'Participatory Festival' where 300,000 citizens can unite under the theme of 'Breath of the Navy Headquarters of 3 Provinces.'
In addition, as an experience event, the same city and committee are going to add to the amusement of participants by conducting the programs 'Let's Oar', ' Writing Famous Sayings and Poems', 'Making & Flying a Signaling Kite', 'Jeolla Jwasuyeong Patrolman Experiencing', etc.
This year, the festival organizers decided to convert 'Tongjeyeong Gil-nori' to a participatory one and to expand into citizens' 'Daedong Nori' (traditional farmers' group play) through 'Yongjudarigi', 'Sodongjul No-ri', and 'Megu Performance.'
In the festival venue, sales booths where the representative food are to be displayed by 27 eups, myeons and dongs respectively will be in operation, and the festival organizers are going to make this festival helpful to local economy revitalization by intensifying the publicity of regional representative special products.
In addition, the festival organizers will get local elementary school students to participate in 'Sodongjul Nori, and the same organizers are going to inspire a festive mood by opening the 'Youth Dance and Norae Madang Event', through which they can radiate their talent and enthusiasm.
A city official said, "This year, we arranged the 'Yeosu Jinnam Turtle Ship Festival' in order to continue the existence as a ‘City of Fatherland Protection and Allegiance to Fatherland' where Admiral Yi Sun-shin's spirit lives on, and to long for the reconciliation and unity of 300,000 Yeosu citizens", and continued, "We will develop this festival into the nation's best by strengthening differentiation and competitiveness."
