Investing 30 Billion KRW from National Outlay, Developing Woongchun, Yeosu as Mariner Harbor for an International Base.
Yeosu City was selected as a nominee for the preferential negotiation of the mariner harbor development enterprise for an International Base which the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries accepted applications for, and can lay a foundation of an international maritime tourist attractions city.
The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries selected and reported Woongchun, Yeosu, Jeonnam; Bangamuri, Ansan, Gyeonggi; Waemok, Dangjin, Choongnam; and Woonchon, Haewundae, Pusan as four target sites of the enterprise. Yeosu City received financial support of 30 billion KRW from the government as the base establishment expenses, and can develop the mariner harbor for an international base where 300 vessels can moor at Woongchun, Yeosu until December 2019.
This is the priority enterprise the government tries to develop at the six base cities in the nation, and indicates the harbor with an international mariner network equipped with management functions such as mooring facilities of over 300 vessels, customs, immigration control, and quarantine.
The enterprise of the mariner harbor development at Woongchun is expected to have an effect of triggered production at more than 190 billion KRW and of induced added value at over 60 billion KRW, and Yeosu is anticipating that the mariner enterprise will hereafter create job opportunities of high added value in the region and that it will also greatly contribute to the development of the regional economy by promoting the activation of maritime tourism.
Accordingly, Yeosu states a policy to reinforce its location as a mecca of maritime leisure and sports at the center of the southern coast and to foster the mariner enterprise as the new dynamic force of growth in Yeosu from now on by developing the largest domestic mariner complex at the scope of total 500 vessels connecting the mariner facilities at 206 vessels which are currently under construction.
