National Institute for International Education to Come to Yeosu and Serve as a Basis for the City’s

With a view to creating a basis for the city’s global activity and raising talents with global mind frame, Yeosu is going to be a host for National Institute for International Education (NIIED) and will hold a ceremony for signing an agreement with Jeollanam-do Office of Education on Dec. 15 at Situation Room of City Hall.Currently, NIIED is located as one single entity in Seongnam, and a separate division will be created in Yeosu. An NIIED in Yeosu will have such facilities as main hall (3F), two dormitory buildings, a public library specialized in foreign languages, an exhibition hall, a convention hall, and a gym, and will have about 40 employees working in three departments. Total project budget is about 40 billion won, out of which 20 billion won will be invested by Jeollanam-do Office of Education and Yeosu City is to provide its administrative complex in Dolsan as the project site.To be run by Jeollanam-do, National Institute for International Education in Yeosu (tentatively named) will operate English education and training for teachers of Jeollanam-do, experiential education for multicultural families, international exchange projects, and foreign language programs for city residents, and will implement projects for educational globalization special district. It will educate about 4,300 trainees a year while about 28,000 people will use the facilities.
Especially with multicultural families and students taking up increasing portions, the institute will focus on its plan to advance education for multicultural students, by creating a multiculturally friendly environment and thereby implementing personalized education.Inquiry: Education Support Division ☎061-659-4725
