Yeosu City Hall from February began offering computer classes for the public to raise computer literacy, encourage civic participation and facilitate communication with the people.
The 12 courses will be divided into 100 sessions and up to 1,800 people can apply this year. A Yeosu resident can apply for a course free of charge online on the fifth day of every month on a first-come, first-served basis.
Students can attend classes at eight locations, including the computer education halls on the second floor of Yeosu City Hall and the third floor of the youth training center. Four professional instructors provide hands-on lessons on various computer programs.
The 12 courses include those on basic computer skills, Internet, word processing, PowerPoint, Excel, Photoshop, video editing, smartphone literacy and computer certificates. Both beginners and advanced students can sign up.
The director of Yeosu City Hall's information and communication division said, "We'll work hard to improve the people's lives through a variety of computer education programs," adding, "From March, we'll also visit residents having difficulty coming to class and provide lessons for them at the senior citizens' and community centers.
