Yeosu City Runs “100-Won City Bus for Youth” Starting from January 1st, 2022 Youth Using Transportation Card Only Has to Pay 100 Won

To reduce the burdens of households and students in COVID-19 situation as well as encourage the use of public transportation, Yeosu City announced on running a city bus that charges 100 won to youth starting from January 1st, 2022.
Starting from 2022, all elementary school, middle school, high school students, and youth under 18 using the city bus at Yeosu will be paying 100 won.
In 2018, Yeosu city ran 100-won bus for elementary school students. The city bus got favorable feedbacks and the citizens requested on expanding the targets to middle school and high school students. In response, Yeosu City conducted online survey on 1,679 citizens and closely reviewed the additional expenditure to decide on 100-won bus for youth.
When youth under 18 (including middle school, high school students) pay the bus fee with a transportation card, only 100 won will be deducted from 1,200 won and Yeosu City supports the remaining 1,100 won to the bus company.
In 2022 main budgets, Yeosu City secured the budgets of 3.8 billion won for the 100-won bus for youth
In Yeosu City, there are total of 14,570 middle and high school students. As of 2020, middle and high school students take up about 14% (2,200,000 cases) among total annual uses (16,300,000).
Yeosu City said “We hope to lessen the burden of youths using the city bus and invigorate the public transportation by encouraging more students to use the public transportation.”
