6.59 billion won in the first half of the year, a ripple effect on the local economy
The City of Yeosu announced on the 17th that it hosted a total of 242 MICE events during the first half of this year, which is almost double that of the same period last year.
In May, when social distancing was fully lifted, 96 MICE events were hosted, which is the biggest achievement to record this year.
In particular, it is forecasted that the 'Yeosu MICE industry' has entered an apparent recovery trend, with an increased number of cases from 91 in May 2019, which was before COVID-19.
Various MICE events were held or are planned to be held this month as well.
Including the academic conference of the Korean Association of Public Administration attended by 1,000 domestic and foreign experts participants, academic events of the Korean Association of Pediatric Surgeons, the Korean Academy of Conservative Dentistry, the Korea Association of Child And Education, the Korean Fiber Society, the Korean Society of Dairy Science and Biotechnology, the Korean Society for Mathematical Biology, the Korean Association of Party Studies, and the Korean Society for Fluid Power and Construction Equipment will be held.
The city analyzed that various MICE support measures such as tailored COVID-19 incentives have proven to be effective.
The city plans to continue its recovery by hosting MICE events that reflect regional characteristics, such as the ‘MICE Attraction Briefing Session’, the ‘Yeosu MICE Forum’, and various exhibitions in the second half of the year.
Kim Tae Wan, the head of the Yeosu City Investment Expo division, announced: “The Yeosu MICE industry is recovering to the state before COVID-19 thanks to the customized marketing and support measures exercised in the first half of this year. By driving this momentum, we will revitalize the local economy by hosting various MICE events in joint efforts with our citizens in the second half of the year."
