Best practices in supply/distribution… Awarded the Milano Pact (MPA)
Yeosu-si (Mayor Jeong Kimyung) announced on the 19th that it won the grand prize in the supply and distribution sector at the "2022 Milan Urban Food Policy Pact (MUFPP) Excellent Food Policy Awards" held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
The MPA, the world's most prestigious award in the field of food, is an award given to cities that have demonstrated outstanding achievements in implementing the pact and sustainable food policies at the MUFPP, in which more than 240 cities around the world, including Paris, London and New York, participate.
Yeosu-si joined the "Global Urban Food Policy Pact" initiated at the Milan Expo in 2015 and expressed interest in global food issues, and applied for the first time this year and posted a splendid achievement of winning an award.
In particular, this year, 251 cases from 133 cities, the largest number ever, were submitted. Among them, Yeosu-si's "Case of Protecting Local Students and Cattle Farms in the Era of COVID-19" was evaluated as an innovative marketing strategy and was selected as the best example in the supply and distribution sector.
Yeosu-si attended the award ceremony and MUFPP Global Forum from October 17th to 19th, sharing best practices through round table discussions.
A city official said, “It is a meaningful award in a situation where the importance of food policy is increasing day by day due to rapid climate change and food crisis.” and “Our city plans to enact a food ordinance and operate a related committee to guarantee citizens’ basic rights to food, discover food policies, and prepare an institutional foundation.”
Meanwhile, in the first half of this year, Yeosu-si completed the "Food Plan Establishment Research Service," which was promoted from last year; in August, the "Basic Plan for Yeosu-si Food" was established with the vision of "building a win-win food ecosystem with the citizens of SeomseomYeosu".
