“Island, it will be closer to us with a drone"…Yeosu City has begun a demonstration project of drone delivery.

Yeosu City has begun a demonstration project of drone delivery to the island areas of poor logistics starting August 22 until the end of November.
Delivery will be made for 10 areas of Songdo, Daedurado, Sodurado, Daeheonggando, Soheonggando, Jaedo, Sanghwado, Hahwado, Geumodo, etc under the jurisdiction. In order to deliver local specialty of abalone back to the islands during the month of October, five hotel resorts will be added which are located at Dolsan-eup.
Products are daily necessities, emergency medicines, and catering foods under 5 kg of weight and will be delivered 1 to 2 times a week for each zone.
Users will be able to pick up the products at the designated delivery center when they receive the notice of arrival after the order and reservation through a delivery App ‘Yeosu Fly‘ or a phone call to the delivery service. Delivery charge will be supported by the city.
In the mean time, the present project has been selected for 'Drone Empirical City Establishment Contest Project' which is supervised by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport for consecutive 2 years. It was the result of securing 1.2 billion won national expenditures, 120 million won provincial expenditures and 400 million won municipal expenditures.
Accordingly, since last March, we have installed delivery bases (Takeoff and landing site for drone, a control tower) at Jinmo and Jakgeum Port in Dolsan, Hwajungmyeon on Gaedo and prepared the infrastructures of a delivery center (Facility to receive the products) and a drone control room. Also, we have established the delivery system in detail such as the flight path, the safety management system as well as the development of a delivery App.
The City has been designated for 'Drone Special Free Zone (′23.6.~′25.6.)' to promote the advanced empirical project of a smart marine management and a high weight long distance logistics. The City has aroused the expectation of the development of drone industry which is the future new growth engine.
The city authority revealed, "When the delivery service is settled for island areas through the present demonstration period, it is expected to respond to any emergency situations such as the delivery of medicines. We will verify the safety and efficiency of drone technology and actively put an effort to provide various services for general daily life."
