Le Soleal run by Ponant, a French shipping company, entered Yeosu Port on Sep. 9
Yeosu City (Mayor Jung Ki Myung) said that on Oct. 9, Le Soleal, an international cruise ship, arrived to Yeosu Port.
According to the city, Le Soleal, is operated by Ponant, a world-famous French cruise shipping company, and some 400 passengers, including 250 passengers from Europe and the Americas and 136 crew members came to Yeosu.
The city has provided excellent administrative services such as welcoming performances by Chwitadae, the city’s gugak (‘Korean national music’) band, free shuttle buses to major tourist attractions, cultural tour guides and interpreters, and the establishment and operation of stalls with local specialties, so that the short-term passengers can fully experience the city.
In particular, Yeosu City drew great response from the foreign passengers by presenting them with complimentary Korean traditional fans with their Korean names written on them in marking the Hangul (‘Korean Alphabet’) Day.
The tourists visited major tourist attractions such as Yeosu World Expo Center, Jongpo Marine Park, and Yi Sun-shin Square, and enjoyed various attractions of Yeosu by tasting the famous gourmet ‘Gat Kimchi Kimbop’.
Meanwhile, Le Soleal, which started out of Fukuoka, Japan on Oct. 3, will return to the port of call on Oct. 10 via Osaka and Tsushima in Japan as well as Yeosu.
The city said, “For cruise ships of Ponant, this is the third time after April and May 2023 when its cruise ship first visited the port city.” The city official added, “These calls in succession mean a clear signal that as a tourist destination, Yeosu is getting a good response from passengers.”
He further said, “One single cruise attracts as many as thousands of overseas tourists, so it is an excellent opportunity to showcase Yeosu to people overseas.” He added, “We will do our best to revitalize cruise tourism through port calls.”
The last international cruise to visit Yeosu this year is ASUKA Ⅱ operated by Yusen Cruise, a Japanese shipping company, which is scheduled to arrive on the first day of next month.
