Mayor Jung Ki Myung Attends the “World City Day” Event in a Bid to Bring Publicity to the 2026 Yeosu World Island Expo

Mayor Jung Ki Myung attended the opening ceremony and city forum of the 2024 World Cities Day China Observance in Shandong, China on Oct. 26, to promote the 2026 Yeosu World Island Expo and delivered the keynote address for the sustainable city.
In his keynote speech, Mayor Jung Ki Myung presented a model of the city on the premise of the co-existence of the city and nature, and explained about the Yeosu Bay Renaissance Plan, which considers the leading city in climate change response as a municipal policy with a view to implementing carbon neutrality in the Yeosu National Industrial Complex and the preservation and development of only five bays surrounding the Yeosu Peninsula.
In addition, the mayor introduced the 2026 Yeosu World Island Expo, which will revisit the ecological and cultural values and possibilities of the islands for the first time in the world, and sought attention and cooperation from the participating countries.
Mayor Jung met Vice Mayor ZHAO Baogang of Weihai and YAN Jianbo, Party Secretary of the city on Oct. 24 and 25, and delivered the invitation letter to the Island Expo. The Yeosu mayor said, “I am pleased to visit Weihai, which has been our sister city since 1995, and I hope to see you at the upcoming Island Expo.”
In response, Vice Mayor Zhao said, “We expect that the 2026 Yeosu World Island Expo will also be successful with the potential that your city demonstrated in leading the 2012 Yeosu World Expo.”
Meanwhile, Yeosu City’s delegation, made up of five people including Mayor Jung Ki Myung and a translator, visited Weihai for four days from Oct. 2 through 27 to promote the Island Expo.
