Yeosu Attracts Jeonnam-Dongbu Immigration Foreign Support Center
Private-Public Cooperation for Covering Foreigner Policy from Entry to Settlement
After fierce competition among local governments in Jeollanam-do Dongbu(Eastern) regions, Yeosu has finally attracted Jeonnam-Dongbu Immigration Foreign Support Center.
According to Yeosu, Jeollanam-do initially established the Immigration Foreign Support Center in Yeongam last year to overcome population decline and meet the growing policy demands from the foreign residents. Jeollanam-do also searched for an additional site in eastern regions.
In response, Yeosu focused on attracting the center by newly establishing Youth Population Policy Division under the Vice Mayor’s Office and discussed the local institutions and operational sites last year.
Jeonnam-Dongbu Immigration Foreign Support Center will be constructed inside The Korea Chamber of Commerce & Industry (KCCI) Yeosu and will be in charge of seven cities and counties, including Yeosu, Suncheon, Gwangyang, Gokseong, Gurye, Goheung, and Boseong.
The center will provide customized services for foreign residents, including ▲ operation of consultation center ▲ Korean language and vocational training ▲ cultural programs for social integration and awareness improvement.
Jeollanam-do plans to publicly recruit an entrusted agency for the Jeonnam-Dongbu Immigration Foreign Support Center until 4th of following month, assess the agencies during February, and operate the center starting from July.
Mayor Jung Gi-myeong stated, "We expect the center to contribute to stable employment opportunities for foreign residents and solve workforce shortage issue in the industrial, agricultural, and fisheries fields. It is particularly significant, since it was achieved through public-private collaboration, such as site provided by KCCI Yeosu."
According to the "Report on Status of Foreign Residents in Local Governments" released by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety in October 2024, 10,543 foreign residents live in Yeosu, which is the second-highest number in the province, following Yeongam.
