Yeosu City Emerging as a Leading K-Tourism Destination and Global Hotspot
- Renowned Brand Hotels, including Hilton, Under Development
- Rising Expectations as Yeosu Reinvents as a K-tourism City and Global Hotspot
Yeosu, located in Jeollanam-do, is gaining significant attention with the planned successive openings of major domestic and international franchise hotels. These developments have sparked discussions about Yeosu's potential to evolve into a global hotspot, potentially reshaping Korea's tourism landscape.
Notably, the Honam region's first top-tier global luxury brand hotel is slated to open in the Yeosu Gyeongdo Marine Tourism Complex, being developed as the largest facility of its kind in Asia.
This five-star luxury hotel will feature 29 floors and 307 rooms, with its design selected through an international competition. Set to be an architectural landmark, construction begins next April under the leadership of the Mirae Asset consortium, with an opening slated for 2029.
The facility will include a grand ballroom, seminar rooms, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, and restaurants. Additionally, plans for resorts and villa-style condos mean 929 accommodation units will be established.
In Yeosu's Hwayang district, the Hwayang Integrated Tourism Complex will host the "Hill & Terrace Condo," featuring the world's longest 206-meter all-season infinity pool.
The Hwayang Integrated Tourism Complex will include a golf course, hotel, condos, and cultural facilities on a 6.43-square-kilometer site, with an investment of approximately KRW 1.0524 trillion.
A key component of this development, the Hill & Terrace Condo, will consist of 6 basement levels and 10 above-ground floors, featuring 274 guest rooms and a convention center accommodating 500 attendees. HJ The Ocean Resort Co., Ltd., the project developer, finalized the detailed design and building permits last November and has begun construction.
A new Hilton Hotel is planned for Hak-dong, featuring 24 above-ground floors and 179 rooms. The building permit process was completed last June, and Urban Bluewings Co., Ltd. is currently overseeing the subsequent procedures to move the project forward.
At the site around 30, Sujeong-dong, covering an area of 31,000㎡, plans are underway for a renowned domestic hotel chain to build a five-star, 10-story hotel. This facility will include sports amenities like a swimming pool, convenience features such as an observation deck, and unique facilities such as an ocean plaza and cave plaza. The traffic impact assessment is complete, and preparations for the detailed plan and building permit processes are underway.
A city official remarked, "The city has consistently worked to attract domestic and international investments. As Yeosu quickly emerges as a leading K-tourism city, domestic and international investments are escalating." The official added, "With this momentum, Yeosu will likely establish itself as one of the world's top tourist cities, extending its prestige beyond the national level."
