Yeosu City to Open Nine Beaches Simultaneously on July 5
Free Marine Leisure Sports Experiences Offered at Ungcheon Beach, Expo Site, and Soho Yacht Marina
Yeosu will be the first city in the Jeonnam region to open its beaches and welcome summer vacationers.
Yeosu City (Mayor Jung Gi-Myoung) announced on July 19 that it would open all its beaches on July 5 and keep them open for 44 days until August 17.
The nine beaches in the city are Manseong-ri, Mosageum, Bangjukpo, Musulmok, Jangdeung, Nangdo, Geomundo, Ando, and Ungcheon.
Operating hours will be from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. For water safety, free life jackets will be available for rent at all beaches.
Before the opening, the city completed safety inspections with relevant agencies, including the Coast Guard and the Yeosu Regional Office of Oceans and Fisheries, and is currently conducting tests on the quality of sand and water.
To ensure safe beach operations, marine safety boundary lines and jellyfish prevention nets have been installed, and facilities such as shower booths, restrooms, and sand areas have been maintained.
Additionally, the city plans to hire 40 certified lifeguards and deploy them to the beaches after providing them with practical rescue training.
This year, in anticipation of crowds even outside the official season, safety guides will be stationed at Ungcheon and Mosageum beaches from June to October.
At Bangjukpo Beach, a "healing barefoot path" was created last May, offering visitors the unique experience of a barefoot walk followed by a seawater foot bath.
Mayor Jung Gi-Myoung of Yeosu City stated, "We will do our utmost to manage our beaches to prevent any water-related accidents by conducting regular on-site inspections before and after the opening and deploying safety personnel appropriately."
Meanwhile, Yeosu City is offering a free summer marine leisure sports experience program for all citizens and tourists.
The program will run from June through September at Ungcheon Beach, the Yeosu World Expo site, and Soho Yacht Marina, offering experiences in eight activities: windsurfing, kayaking, canoeing, scuba diving, snorkeling, water bicycles, dinghy sailing, and cruiser yachting.
Applications can be submitted through the Yeosu City OK Integrated Reservation System (www.yeosu.go.kr/newok), by phone, or on-site on the day of the activity.
Details such as the location of each program, reservation methods, and age restrictions can be found on the Yeosu City website.
