Yeosu City Enhances Public WiFi for Faster, More Convenient Access
Adds 542 new hotspots in public facilities, bringing the total to 2,081 service locations
Yeosu City (Mayor Jung Gi-Myoung) announced on the 30th that it has installed additional public WiFi in 542 public facilities, including major tourist sites and parks, ahead of the 2026 Yeosu World Island Exhibition.
This brings the total number of free internet service locations to 2,081, including the existing 1,539 spots.
In Odongdo Island and Ungcheon Waterfront Park, areas with high foot traffic, the city has installed WiFi 7 with 10Gbps speeds—a first in the Jeonnam province and over 10 times faster than the existing WiFi 6 (1Gbps) equipment. This ensures stable and seamless internet access even in crowded multi-user environments.
To use the service, users can enable the WiFi function on their mobile phones and connect to either ‘'Yeosu WiFi Free' for standard access or 'Yeosu WiFi Secure' for secure access, regardless of their mobile carrier. For the secure connection, both the ID and password are 'wifi.'
Previously, the city began expanding its public WiFi service as part of its 8th-term administration pledge to "Create a Safe and Convenient Smart City for Citizens."
On June 27, the city held a 'Yeosu City Public WiFi Expansion Project Completion Briefing' attended by about 20 people, including Mayor Jung Gi-Myoung and KT officials, to conduct a final inspection of the integrated monitoring system.
Mayor Jung Gi-Myoung stated, "With the 2026 Yeosu World Island Exhibition approaching, even more people from around the world will visit Yeosu. Starting with this cutting-edge system, we will continue to improve our communications infrastructure."
