Drone Delivery to 10 Islands; Support Expanded from Daily Necessities to Administrative Services
Yeosu City (Mayor Jung Gi-Myoung) announced that it will fully launch the 'Island Drone Delivery Commercialization Project' from July 11 to November 21, delivering daily necessities and food via drone to 10 islands in logistics-vulnerable areas.
This project was made possible after Yeosu City was selected in the ‘2025 K-Drone Delivery Commercialization Project' competition, hosted by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MOLIT) and the Korea Institute of Aviation Safety Technology (KIAST) last March, securing KRW 90 million in national funding.
Drone deliveries will operate from three hubs (Jinmo District in Dolsan, Jakgeum Port in Dolsan, and Gaedo Island in Hwajeong-myeon) to designated delivery points on 10 islands (Songdo, Sohoenggando, Daehoenggando, Sodurado, Daedurado, Geumo Island, Gaedo Island, Sanghwado, Hahwado, and Jedo).
The service will deliver items such as daily necessities and food, starting with an initial payload of 5 kg and expanding to a maximum of 10 kg around October.
Deliveries will be made every Friday or every other Friday, depending on the zone, with the delivery fee fully covered by the city.
Users can place orders in advance through the 'Yeosu Fly' delivery app or by phone (☎061-641-4959). A notification message is sent when the items arrive at the delivery point, and customers can then retrieve them.
Furthermore, Yeosu City plans to utilize the drone delivery network to expand its administrative services, including delivering disaster relief supplies and support items for vulnerable groups, transporting emergency mail, and patrolling hazardous areas.
A city official stated, "This year, building on the drone delivery foundation we have established over the past two years, we will provide tangible services that residents can truly feel the benefit of." They added, "We will continuously improve the drone delivery service to make it more convenient for our island residents."
Meanwhile, on July 4, Yeosu City signed a business agreement with six local credit unions to advance the drone industry. The credit unions have pledged to sponsor items worth KRW 10 million for this year's island drone delivery service.
