- Around 680 passengers to enjoy shore excursions, expected to boost the local economy through tourism, cultural experiences, and promotion of specialty products.
Yeosu City (Mayor Jung Gi-Myoung) announced that the Japanese cruise ship ‘Mitsui Ocean Fuji’ will call at Yeosu Port on August 21.
This marks the ship's second port of call, following its first visit in May. During its approximately 10-hour stay, around 680 passengers and crew members are scheduled to tour Yeosu’s major attractions.
Over 90% of the passengers are Japanese tourists. Through shore excursions, they will experience Yeosu's local culture up close by visiting representative tourist attractions such as Odongdo Island, Heungguksa Temple, Yi Sun-sin Square, and the Marine Cable Car, as well as exploring the fisheries market.
For the convenience of the tourists, Yeosu City will operate a free shuttle bus connecting the cruise terminal and Yi Sun-sin Square and present a welcoming performance by the Yeosu Municipal Traditional Music Orchestra’s Chwitadae (traditional military band). A traditional Korean music farewell performance by the Yeosu Pungmul Troupe will also be presented.
In addition, the city will provide various administrative services, including stationing Japanese-speaking interpreters at the terminal, operating a temporary currency exchange booth, and providing cultural tourism guides who can communicate in foreign languages.
Furthermore, a pop-up store for Yeosu's specialty products will be set up and operated, and a separate tour for crew members will be arranged to provide them with opportunities to experience the region. Through these efforts, the city expects tangible benefits such as increased on-site spending and encouraging repeat visits.
A city official stated, “The call of an international cruise ship at Yeosu Port is an opportunity to promote Yeosu to a large number of international tourists in a short period. We will continue to develop differentiated port call tourism content to enhance Yeosu’s status as a global marine tourism city.”
Meanwhile, the Mitsui Ocean Fuji is scheduled to make another call in November, and more than five visits are planned for 2026.
