‘2025 Yeosu International Art Festival’ to Open on September 1

The ‘2025 Yeosu International Art Festival,’ hosted by Yeosu City and organized by the 2025 Yeosu International Art Festival Promotion Committee, will be held from September 1 to 30 at Exhibition Hall D of the Yeosu World Expo Site.
This year's art festival, under the theme , reinterprets islands not merely as isolated geographical spaces but as complex places where time, memory, and life overlap.
The exhibition views islands as hubs of exchange and creation rather than separation, expressing their ecological, cultural, and social significance through artistic language.
A total of 69 artists will participate in the festival, including 12 international artists from nine countries, 20 domestic artists, 7 local artists, and 30 artists selected through an open call. They will present over 200 works across diverse genres such as sculpture, painting, installation, and video.
Through various media, the participating artists will explore the symbolism and temporality of islands, and the meeting points where nature and humanity, memory and senses converge.
The festival will take place at Exhibition Hall D and the Marine Outdoor Park of the Yeosu World Expo Site. The Marine Outdoor Park will feature an installation piece titled, while the halls within Building D will host exhibitions with distinct themes.
Exhibition Hall D1 will present works under the theme , and Hall D2 will feature the theme . Hall D3 will showcase works by artists selected from the open call under the theme , and Hall D4 will display pieces by local artists.
Alongside the main exhibition, a variety of programs will be offered for citizens and tourists, including a social media event for exhibition reviews, docent-led artwork explanations, and photo zones.
Furthermore, two associated exhibitions will run concurrently: 'Island, Landscape of Memory – Geumo Island, Gaedo Island' at the Yeosu Museum of Art, and 'Art Travel Yeosu' at the Art Diocean Gallery.
Artistic Director Lee Yu-jeong stated, “Ahead of the 2026 Yeosu World Island Expo, this art festival will serve as an artistic venue for reflecting on the coexistence of islands and the sea, nature, and humanity.”
Mayor Jung Gi-Myoung of Yeosu City said, “I hope the 2025 Yeosu International Art Festival will become a bridge connecting art and people, the city and the world. We will continue to lay the foundation for our citizens to grow together and for Yeosu to engage with the global community through culture and the arts.”
