- Briefing planned for the Korean Association in Weihai; participation agreements expected from meetings with Lishui and Shaoxing mayors
Mayor Jung Gi-Myoung of Yeosu City will visit three sister and friendship cities in China—Weihai, Lishui, and Shaoxing—from November 2 to 7 to attract delegations for the 2026 Yeosu World Island Expo and expand exchange and cooperation.
The visit is a key step in full-scale efforts to attract delegations for the 2026 Yeosu World Island Expo, which aims to draw 3 million visitors from 30 countries, including 90,000 from overseas. The focus is on China, as it is home to the largest number of Yeosu's sister cities and friendship cities.
The first stop on his itinerary is Weihai, a city with a population of about 2.9 million. There, he will hold a briefing on the Island Expo for officials from the Korean Association and the local travel association and will discuss concrete participation plans, such as operating non-scheduled flights.
Next, in Lishui, a city in Shandong Province with which Yeosu has had active exchanges since 2005, Mayor Jung will meet with Mayor Zhu Linsen. He will request the participation of a city delegation during the Expo and call for strengthened cooperation, with plans to pursue a participation agreement if necessary.
Finally, he will visit the international friendship city of Shaoxing for a meeting with Mayor Wu Dengbian and foreign affairs officials. Discussions will focus on specific participation measures, including signing a participation agreement for a city delegation, similar to the plan for Lishui.
Mayor Jung Gi-Myoung stated, “Through this visit to our sister and friendship cities in China, we will raise international interest and awareness of the 2026 Yeosu World Island Expo and develop multifaceted cooperation plans to expand participation.” He added, “We will prepare thoroughly to ensure that this Expo becomes a stepping stone for Yeosu's new leap forward and sustainable development.”
Meanwhile, Yeosu City is continuing its active overseas promotional activities. In September, city officials visited Qingdao, China, to promote the Island Expo and invited Lishui's Vice Mayor Zhu Huaping to discuss cooperative measures for participation.
