Course 1: Odongdo ↔ Yeojaman (Bukchon) 41.3km
The Odongdo to Yeojaman course invites you to explore Yeosu’s vibrant urban highlights.
Starting at Odongdo, this route passes through Yeosu Marine Park, Yi Sun-sin Square, Ungcheon Beach Park, and Soho Dongdong Bridge, offering an unforgettable immersion into the city’s charm.
Passing the Gasa-ri Tidal Embankment into Yeojaman, you’ll find the Sunset Path, where scenic mudflats and golden sunsets create a breathtaking atmosphere. A 500-meter sea deck connects Bokchon to Banwol Village. This path will eventually extend to Sangbong, marking the border between Yeosu and Suncheon, to create a wide-ranging eco-adventure cycling route. Currently, the cycling path is completed up to Sodeong.
Odongdo
Part of Hallyeohaesang National Park, Odongdo is connected to the mainland by an 800-meter breakwater. Known for its camellia trees and rare plants, Odongdo’s cliffs and natural beauty are stunning. In March, over 3,000 camellia trees bloom, and by April, the fallen petals blanket the island in a red carpet of flowers.
Jinnamgwan
Jinnamgwan, the largest single-story wooden government building still standing in Korea, served as the headquarters of the Joseon Dynasty’s naval forces for over 400 years and was the first base of the Three-Provincial Naval Command. It also served as the main office of the Jeolla Naval Command and functioned as a guesthouse. Currently undergoing restoration, it is open for tours on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays of each month by reservation.
Hamel Lighthouse
The Hamel Lighthouse commemorates the Dutch sailor Hendrik Hamel, who spent 3.6 years in Yeosu. Situated at the site where Hamel and his crew departed Yeosu, it celebrates the friendship between Yeosu and the Netherlands, offering insights into 17th-century Korea and the wider world.
Yeosu Marine Park
Known for its amorous starlit vistas, Yeosu Marine Park is a must-visit hotspot featuring live performances, events, and seaside food stalls along the romantic Pocha Street.
Yi Sun-sin Square
A landmark of Yeosu, Yi Sun-sin Square features a grand statue of Admiral Yi Sun-sin and a replica of the turtle ship. The annual Yeosu Turtle Ship Festival, held every May, honors the admiral’s legacy.
Dolsan Bridge
The first bridge connecting Dolsan Island and Yeosu, Dolsan Bridge offers breathtaking views of the sea, surrounding islands, and Yeosu Port. At night, the illuminated bridge columns and nearby Janggun Island create an exotic and enchanting atmosphere.
Ungcheon Beach Park
Situated along the pristine waters of Gamak Bay, Ungcheon Beach Park is an eco-friendly seaside retreat. Visitors can enjoy camping and a variety of marine leisure sports in this beautifully designed space.
Seonso (Shipyard)
Designated as Historic Site No. 392, Seonso dates back to the Goryeo Dynasty and is believed to have produced turtle ships during the Imjin War. Notable relics include a dry dock used to repair and store warships and stone markers indicating restricted access areas for the general public.
Soho Dongdong Bridge
Soho Dongdong Bridge, a 742-meter-long deck walkway over the sea, connects the Soho Community Center to the Soho Yacht Marina, providing a scenic and peaceful place to stroll while enjoying Yeosu’s captivating night views. With its stunning nighttime lighting, this path is nicknamed Yeosu’s Second Night Sea and is known as a new nightscape destination for evening strolls and scenic views. At the nearby Soho Yacht Marina, visitors can indulge in marine activities such as yachting, jet-skiing, and windsurfing.
Yeosu Tidal Flats and Sunset Village
The sunsets over the tidal flats in Yeojaman are breathtaking, and the evening glow creates a beautiful scene. The area is surrounded by many cafes that also serve as restaurants. At Yeosu Tidal Flats and Sunset Village, visitors can participate in tidal flat exploration activities.
