Detailed Description
Hyangilam Temple, which is at the end of Dolsando Island is one of the 4 main praying temple in Korea (Hongryeonam Temple in Naksansa, Boriam Temple in Namhae Geumsan, Bomunam Temple in Ganghwado, Hyangilam Temple in Geumosan Mountain in Yeosu). The monk Inmuk named it Hyanilam in 1715 being mesmerized by the sunrise. The temple on a steep coastal cliff is in a great harmony with sub-tropical plants like camellia trees and huge rocks. Hyangilam was all burnt down in December 2009, but it's now recostructed and regaining its fame again.
An interesting thing of the Hyangilam temple is that the huge rocks sometimes become a gate and pillars. The temple was built on a naturally flat place and left the rocks. Hyangilam Temple is one of the most famous place to watch sunrise around the southern part of Korea. You can also see the sunset here, too.
